Soap Nuts - 100g

Soap Nuts - 100g

Welcome to zero-waste laundry!!

Soap Nuts are the seed pod of a macadamia-sized berry from the Sapindus Mukorossi  or Soap Nut tree, which is cracked open and dried in the sun, producing a sticky, dark golden shell. These shells (known as 'soapnuts') can be placed into your washing machine instead of detergent and fabric softener, and will leave your clothes clean, soft and without scent.

Add 6-8 soap nuts to your spare bag (included in your soap nut bag), tie it up and pop it in your washing machine.

You can use them on any cycle, cold water will release the saponins slower but will still be very effective. You could soak the nuts briefly, in their bag in water, before adding them to your machine.

This amount of nuts should get around 10 washes. Once the nuts have become mushy and quite worn, you can put them in your compost.

100g of soap nuts will give you approximately 50 washes.

There is no need for fabric softener as soap nuts leave your laundry lovely and soft. However if you're looking to add scent to your washing, a great natural fabric softener recipe is : White Vinegar (2lt) with a capful of your favourite essential oil and a couple of squirts of liquid castile or dish soap.

Add to your washing machine as you would regular fabric softner.
